2024 Design trends from the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas

Smart homes get smarter

Some great new AI and smart technology is being integrated into luxury appliances. Signature Kitchen Suite debuted a speed oven that is multifunctional; functioning as an oven, microwave, and air fryer, with an LCD touchscreen and WIFI connectivity. JennAir presented a SlimTech Column refrigerator, which gets rid of the industry-standard polyurethane foam and replaces it with VIS technology, allowing it to operate 50% more efficiently. Midea’s Barista Brew smart coffee machine connects with an app for remote start-up and features “BrewIQ” technology— essentially smart software that asks you to select your favorite flavor profiles and then gradually “learns” your personal tastes. Last but not least, FreePower’s wireless charging turns any surface (your countertop, for instance) into a charging station. New technology is also used to create products; Kohler teamed up with artist Daniel Arsham to create a 3D-printed vessel sink.

We had a blast touring the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) at the Las Vegas Convention Center with DJ Carey, Editorial Director of Cottages & Gardens, on the C&G Insider Tour. Here are a few of the new products and trends that caught our eye.

Colorful customizations

We noticed an infusion of color in the kitchen and bath design space. There were colorful sinks, toilets, and appliances. Victoria + Albert provided homeowners with ample opportunity for self-expression with three distinct bathtub color palettes, a welcome break from the traditional white or neutral tones typically available. The incorporation of colorful elements adds a touch of playfulness and will also create a unique atmosphere within these spaces. Green was especially popular — its calming qualities support the feeling of wellness. Kohler brought back three vibrant greens from the archives for their kitchen and bath products.

A focus on sustainability

In the ever-evolving landscape of kitchen and bath design, there’s a notable shift towards sustainability and energy efficiency, as evidenced by the introduction of innovative products that prioritize eco-friendly features.

Some highlights include Signature Kitchen Suite’s induction cooktop with Energy Star certification. Induction cooking is known for its precision and speed in cooking while consuming less energy compared to traditional methods. Kohler took a bold step toward sustainability by introducing products crafted from 100% repurposed manufacturing byproducts. This includes tiles and a sink, showcasing a commitment to reducing waste and promoting a circular economy. The use of repurposed materials not only adds a unique character to these products but also aligns with a growing demand for environmentally conscious design. The RainStick shower stands out as an eco-friendly marvel, capturing, cleaning, and reusing water during each use. This ingenious design not only reduces water consumption but also minimizes energy usage by up to 80%. The HydroTap by Zip Water is powered by G5 technology. This innovative faucet goes beyond the conventional, offering filtered, boiling, chilled, and even sparkling water at the touch of a button. This not only enhances convenience but also encourages a reduction in single-use plastic bottles.

The emphasis on sustainability and energy-saving features in these new kitchen and bath products aligns with the global push toward environmentally conscious living and also meets the growing demand from consumers who prioritize eco-friendly choices in their home design and lifestyle.

From unexpected colorways to integrative smart technology to energy-efficient alternatives that prioritize sustainability without compromising style, there are a multitude of ways your home can be enhanced to suit your needs — especially when it comes to your bathroom and kitchen.
